The Justice Department recently sent a letter to all state licensing authorities about new congressional requirements allowing service members and their spouses to use their professional licenses or certificates when they move to a new jurisdiction for military orders if they meet certain requirements.
“Servicemembers and their families should not face unnecessary barriers to employment because of the sacrifices they make in service to our country,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said, according to an Air Force press release. “The guidance we are issuing today reflects the Justice Department’s commitment to honoring our nation’s service members and their families not just with words but also with action.”
DOJ’s Civil Rights Division also released a one-pager on professional license portability for service members and spouses.
