Air Force to Invest $1.6 Billion in Dorms, Child Care

August 24, 2023

The Air Force will spend “more than $1.6 billion in infrastructure funding… to improve unaccompanied housing and child development centers across the Department of the Air Force,” according to a Wednesday press release. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center will undertake construction efforts at “more than 61 installations” between now and fiscal year 2027, the release said.

The Air Force didn’t announce all the planned projects and sites but did name some:

  • Dorm construction at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Travis Air Force Base, California and Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma
  • Child development centers at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio

“The Air Force fights from its bases, which means resilient infrastructure is important to mission readiness but also is taking care of airmen executing the mission,” said Tim Sullivan, AFCEC interim built infrastructure executive director and facility engineering directorate chief.
