House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is trying again to rally support among Republicans for a continuing resolution that is loaded with things the most conservative faction of his conference wants, including border security language and a call for a commission to study the federal debt. House leaders have talked about voting on the CR Saturday.

The new plan includes no additional funding for disaster relief or Ukraine aid, even as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visits Capitol Hill today to meet with lawmakers.

It’s unclear whether McCarthy can pass any CR at all, and Punchbowl News noted that former President Trump urged House members to vote against it.

“Don’t believe the House GOP hype yet – it still doesn’t have the votes to stop a shutdown,” is the headline of a new Politico story published minutes ago, with at least one member saying a Saturday vote is unlikely.

The bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus is also drafting a continuing resolution, according to news reports.
