The Pentagon’s budget request released this week would make more military families eligible for the Basic Needs Allowance, Military Times reported.
The BNA helps lower-income service members who have at least one dependent and a gross household income up to 150% of the federal poverty level. The budget request would raise the ceiling to 200% to make more families eligible.
The income ceiling differs by location and household size. If adjusted, military families in the 48 contiguous states would become eligible if they earn less than $40,880 for a family of two or $105,440 for a family of eight.
The budget request also includes a 4.5% pay increase for service members.
