Milley to Testify Today on Afghanistan Withdrawal

March 19, 2024

Retired Army Gen. Mark Milley will testify on Capitol Hill this afternoon about what went wrong during the 2021 withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan when he was chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He’ll be joined at the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing with retired Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, former head of U.S. Central Command.

Milley has in the past expressed regret for how the withdrawal played out and that the military was unable to get everyone out of the country.

“That’s something that haunts me to this day,” he told NPR in 2022, according to The Hill.
