Universal pre-K will be available at almost all DOD Education Activity primary schools starting with the 2024-25 school year, Military Times reported.
DODEA piloted the program in 2023 at a school on a base in Japan. In the upcoming school year, it will add 79 schools to the program at a cost of $75 million.
“This is absolutely a win-win,” DODEA spokesman Will Griffin said. “[Parents] have the opportunity to know their child is in a good place, a nurturing, developmental environment that gets them started with a strong foundation to begin kindergarten.”
Ten schools will be ineligible to participate next year but will be brought into the program in future years. Those include four schools at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and one at Fort Novosel, Alabama.
