New Nebraska Law Focused on Keeping Vets Out of Jail
A new law in Nebraska allows district judges to order treatment for veterans instead of sending them to jail for parole-eligible, nonviolent crimes. A national group, the Veterans Justice Commission, advocated for the law and said it is working with other states to consider similar legislation, according to Military Times.
EPA Disbands Red Hill Community Group
The Environmental Protection Agency has disbanded a community input group in Honolulu, Hawaii that had been formed to weigh in on the closure of the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Facility near Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The group had been unwilling to let Navy officials lead the meetings, according to Honolulu Civil Beat.
