SECARMY Will Cut Programs to Fund Modernization

February 6, 2019

The Army will cut existing programs if necessary to fund its modernization efforts, Army Secretary Mark Esper told CQ in an exclusive interview.
“I’ll just have to start peeling programs off the bottom until I get to my number,” he said.
DOD budget priorities will be clear when the administration’s federal budget request goes to Capitol Hill in the middle of March.
“This Army budget that’s coming out will mark the beginning of a significant shift in our resources to ensure we can fight and win in accordance with the National Defense Strategy,” Esper told CQ. “It’s that big.”
