Wilson Visits Offutt AFB, Vows to Make It ‘Even Better Than It Was’

March 25, 2019

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson visited Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., March 22 and proclaimed Air Force intentions to rebuild the base following recent extensive flooding.
The secretary met with base leadership and elected officials during her visit, according to an Air Force press release.
“We have assistance flying in from all over the United States to assist in the assessment of the damage and to begin reconstruction,” Wilson said. “The United States Air Force will rebuild Offutt Air Force Base. We will work with the Nebraska congressional delegation to secure supplemental funds to be able to recover from the damage and make this base even better than it was.”
Wilson praised the response effort during the flooding.
“There were no injuries, no loss of life on this base,” she said. “All the aircraft were either flown out or moved to high ground. A lot of the ground equipment was saved because this was an all-hands effort.”
During the peak of the flooding, more than a third of the base was under water, as On Base reported.
