Shanahan Cleared in Ethics Investigation

April 25, 2019

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has been cleared in the Pentagon inspector general’s probe around his close ties to his former employer Boeing, according to a report detailing the investigation.
The 47-page report found no evidence Shanahan used his DOD position to promote preference for Boeing, where he worked for three decades.
“We determine that Mr. Shanahan fully complied with his ethics agreements and his ethical obligations regarding Boeing and its competitors,” the IG’s office said in a statement.
In addition to Shanahan, others interviewed included Marine Commandant Gen. Robert Neller, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein, former Defense Secretary Gen. Jim Mattis, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford and Joint Chiefs Vice Chairman Gen. Paul Selva.
The investigation reviewed more than 5,600 pages of unclassified documents and approximately 1,700 pages of classified documents.
The report likely clears the way for President Donald Trump to nominate Shanahan for the top DOD post, as ADC reported earlier this month.
