Military Leaders Meet with Privatized Housing Executives

May 16, 2019

Army Secretary Mark Esper, Navy Secretary Richard Spencer, Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson and other Pentagon leaders met Thursday with senior executives of privatized housing companies that manage housing on military installations, according to an Army press release.
The secretaries presented a proposed Tenant Bill of Rights and led discussions on improving privatized housing conditions.
“No military family should ever have to contend with chronic maintenance issues or concerns such as mold, pests and intrusion in their home,” Spencer told the executives. “In order to fulfill our obligations to our family members and ensure the readiness of the force, we must demand excellence and responsiveness from all concerned, including our housing partners.”
The secretaries first proposed a tenant’s rights draft in March. It is in its final stages before the services soon distribute it to military housing residents for feedback.
“Our military families deserve good housing, and when there’s a problem with a house, it should be fixed promptly and competently,” Wilson added.
Earlier this year military families brought national attention to widespread privatized housing problems, as On Base has reported.
