DOD has announced the first four installations that will test 5G technology: Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Hill Air Force Base, Utah, Naval Base San Diego, Calif., and Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga.
“The bases were selected for their ability to provide streamlined access to site spectrum bands, mature fiber and wireless infrastructure, access to key facilities, support for new or improved infrastructure requirements, and the ability to conduct controlled experimentation with dynamic spectrum sharing,” DOD said last week in a press release.
DOD expects that a draft request for proposals will help it collect industry input before the release of a final RFP on the first round of projects. That RFP timing depends on enactment of a defense appropriations bill, the press release said. The defense spending bill is currently stalled on Capitol Hill.
