Georgia Power Company Partners with Warner Robbins AFB to Support Resilience, Cost-Savings

March 17, 2020
Staff of U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville Utility Energy Services Contracting program recently met with representatives of the Georgia Power Company (GPC) to bring energy savings, resilience and security improvements to Warner Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

The representatives performed depot-level maintenance on a $52 million contract awarded in 2017. The contract states that GPC is responsible for capital costs, designs and installs in the project; but the company is paid from resulting savings.

The project will support electrical upgrades, renewable energy systems, as well as adopting microgrids to create localized electricity sources.  Base officials say that Warner Robbins AFB’s facility infrastructure lags 20-30 years behind industry standards.

“The purpose of this session was to promote a cohesive and collaborative project environment – to achieve a higher level of understanding and coordination of the project as a whole,” said Chad Edwards, a Utility Energy and Service Contract (UESC) project manager.
