COVID-19 Military Community Updates

-Defense Secretary Mark Esper announced a 60-day military stop movement order on Wednesday for DOD uniformed and civilian personnel. The order will affect approximately 90,000 service members scheduled to deploy or redeploy. The Pentagon memo outlined exceptions including travel by patients and medical personnel, as well as scheduled deployments already in transit.

-The U.S. Amy is deploying three field hospitals to New York and Washington to help hospital systems swarmed by COVID-19 patients. The hospitals should arrive in less than a week, Army Times reports.

-The Pentagon issued an order postponing all elective surgeries, invasive procedures and dental procedures starting March 31 for 60 days.

-Military Times reports that a U.S. Marine who works at the Pentagon has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first diagnosed case at the DOD’s headquarters where 29,000 work.

-Three sailors aboard the Navy aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first case of coronavirus on a deployed Navy ship, military.com reports.
