August 12, 2020

The Department of Veterans Affairs is highlighting top veterans employers in each state in a new blog post. VA talked with officials in each state for the informal survey. Here are some of the notable findings:

  • The state government is among the largest employers of veterans in several states, including Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont and West Virginia.
  • Through DOD facilities or other agencies, the federal government is a top employer of veterans in some states such as Idaho, Indiana and New Mexico.
  • Florida officials identified CSX and Blue Florida – a Blue Cross Blue Shield company – as top employers of that state’s large veteran population.
  • Defense-connected companies are identified as top employers of veterans in many states, such as Boeing in Washington and other states, CACI in Virginia, Bath Iron Works in Maine, and USAA in Arizona.
