Senior Leader Spouses Partner for New Family Readiness Pilot Program

December 2, 2020

The 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley and the School for Command Preparation at Fort Leavenworth recently launched a pilot program to better prepare spouses of newly selected officers and other leadership positions.

The program consisted of a week-long course of curriculum covering Army customs and traditions, as well as operating and advising Family Support Groups.

“The pilot program supports Army leaders’ efforts to make people their top priority. By better preparing brigade and battalion spouses to mentor family members at the company and platoon level, units will benefit from better information flow,” according to a service press release.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to bridge the communication gap between the service and Service Family Readiness Groups (SFRGs).

“Fort Riley recently launched the Victory Wellness Campaign with the goal of building stronger, more resilient Soldiers, families and communities,” saidd Fay L. Sims, spouse of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, Maj. Gen. D. A. Sims. “We are fortunate to be partnering with the Command Team Spouse Development Program at Fort Leavenworth to
share our best practices and lessons learned with future brigade and battalion command team spouses.”
