Pentagon Leaders Prep for Hill Grilling on Afghanistan

September 27, 2021

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley and U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie Jr. will face angry lawmakers this week looking for answers about the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The three will appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday morning at 9:30 Eastern time. The hearing announcement indicates some of the testimony will be closed to the public.

The same three leaders will appear at the same time the next morning before the House Armed Services Committee. That hearing will be live streamed.

Milley is likely to also get questions about reports in a new book that he was taking steps in the final days of the Trump administration to block potential military activity ordered by the former president.
