Senate May Try to Move NDAA this Month

The Senate may take up the National Defense Authorization Act before the midterm elections, maybe as soon as this month, Politico reported in its National Security Daily.

“We are pressing very hard,” Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.) told the Defense News conference, according to Politico. “I’m personally engaged with [Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer (D-N.Y.) to try to get it to the floor before we recess for the elections. September, I hope. I’d like to say it’s a certainty, but I cannot say that.”

The House passed its version of the NDAA in July. Last year, the Senate did not pass its own NDAA but agreed to a version negotiated between the House and Senate Armed Services committees.
