A new “report identifies hazards and vulnerabilities in communities surrounding four military installations in Washington, D.C. that could impact the military’s ability to carry out its missions on-base, according to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, which produced the report “Building Resilience Together: Community-Military Collaboration in Washington, D.C.” with partners, through a grant from the DOD Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation. “Our installations and the communities that host them comprise one community, recognizing those that live, learn, work and play in this community, regardless of any installation fence lines, share the same natural and man-made threats,” said OLDCC Director Patrick O’Brien. The report assessed resilience in communities around District of Columbia installations Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington Navy Yard and Fort Lesley J. McNair….

The Presidio of Monterey, California recently celebrated the grand opening of a new energy-efficient housing development for junior enlisted personnel. The 44-acre, $80 million development provides 108 new housing units, according to an Army story. “It’s these types of things that demonstrate how important our military members, our veterans are, not just to our country’s security but to our community’s security,” said Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.), a Navy Reserve veteran.
