Three Army National Guardsmen won this year’s International Sniper Competition, Task and Purpose reported. Team leader Sgt. 1st Class Erik Vargas of the New Mexico Army National Guard, along with Staff Sgts. Benjamin Cotten and Allen Smith, both of the Arkansas Army National Guard, beat 34 other teams from U.S. military branches and military snipers from other countries….

The Marine Corps is deactivating its once women-only recruit battalion at Parris Island, South Carolina. More woman Marines will now be trained in San Diego, California, Stars and Stripes reported….

The Army is considering whether private companies can take over operations of dining hall facilities and make them look more like the food courts with familiar brands that are on many college campuses, Stars and Stripes recently reported.
