Journalist Vince Martellacci reported on Solano Together, a new organization opposing a company that has bought more than 50,000 acres of land around Travis Air Force Base, California. “Initially, government officials had national security concerns,” Martellacci wrote. “Now, the concerns are more local and center around the delicate agricultural ecosystem in Solano County and how the development might harm farming and access to food in the region.”…

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Army Secretary Christine Wormuth affirmed to a federal court in Hawaii that the military would “no longer need to conduct live-fire training at (Mākua Military Reservation), now or in the future,” Hawaii Public Radio reported. After a 2001 settlement, the military hasn’t conducted a live-fire training there since 2004. The court filing from Austin and Wormuth “removed the threat that Mākua will ever again be subjected to live-fire training,” environmental nonprofit group Earthjustice said.
