1,000 Troops to Build Temporary Seaport to Bring Aid to Gaza

About 1,000 soldiers and sailors will deploy soon to build a temporary seaport off the coast of Gaza to provide food to Gazans, as Stars and Stripes reported and according to a DOD press release.

“We’re working to set this up as quickly as possible, but we expect that it will take several weeks to plan and execute,” Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said. “We expect that deliveries… could provide more than 2 million meals to the citizens of Gaza per day.”

By Friday, the only unit that had been selected for the mission was the Army’s 7th Transportation Brigade based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Viriginia.

No U.S. forces will enter Gaza, the Pentagon said.
