Credit Unions Offering Help During Shutdown

January 21, 2019

Dozens of credit unions serving defense communities are offering special assistance for federal employees and contractors affected by the partial government shutdown.
“If your pay is disrupted by this shutdown, we want to help ensure that your life isn’t,” Financial Center CEO Sven Leander said in a press release from the Defense Credit Union Council.
CU Today published a list of at least 90 credit unions offering special loans and other offers.
By late last week, Navy Federal Credit Union had enrolled 11,000 members in a program offering a zero-interest loan of amounts up to $6,000 and made deposits into the account of more than 1,000 members who have missed paychecks, according to DCUC.
