Hill Air Force Base, Utah, cut the ribbon last week on a new $35 million software support facility, according to Deseret News. It will house 309th Software Maintenance Group, which currently has 1,600 personnel and will add 1,400 more personnel over the next decade, the report said…. Alabama schools are getting help from DOD as they struggle to fill vacant teacher positions in rural areas, a shortage that one superintendent said is “almost becoming a crisis,” AP reported…. Charleston, N.C., has accomplished a lot in the 25 years since the Navy closed its base there but has more work to do, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said in a Post and Courier report on the ups and downs of the redevelopment.
