A group of 26 Senators are concerned that Pentagon leadership changes will delay an audit of DOD spending, according to UPI.
“It is important that the responsibility of overseeing the DoD audit is not in any way neglected,” they wrote in a letter spearheaded by Sens. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and Angus King (I-Maine).
In the department’s leadership shift, David Norquist, the comptroller and chief financial officer, also became deputy secretary. Norquist oversaw the department’s first-ever audit last year, but DOD missed a January deadline to brief Congress on how it will address concerns raised in the report, UPI reported.
House Armed Services Committee member Rob Wittman (R-Va.) praised the completion of the 2018 audit in a Defense One column but said that “if the Defense Department fails to implement the appropriate remediations, then they really will have failed.”
