Trump Wants More Troops on Border as DOD Agrees to Find Housing for Migrants

April 11, 2019

President Trump said Wednesday that he intends to deploy more troops to the southern border, Military Times reported.
The president said during a San Antonio stop that “horrible laws” prevent the military from being as aggressive as he wants.
“Our military, don’t forget, can’t act like a military would act,” Trump said. “Because if they got a little rough, everybody would go crazy.”
Former Defense Secretary William Perry took issue with the remarks.
“The U.S. Armed Forces are not hired thugs to be used to ‘rough up’ non-violent civilians for political games, and expressing the desire to utilize them as such disrespects the dignity and honor of our men and women in uniform,” Perry wrote in a tweet.
DOD said Wednesday it had approved a March Department of Homeland Security request to find housing for up to 5,000 unaccompanied migrant children, according to The Hill, but a spokesperson said DOD would not oversee the actual housing of children.
