Shanahan To Retain Top Pentagon Civilians If Confirmed as SecDef

May 17, 2019

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan will retain his top two Pentagon civilian staff if he gains Senate confirmation as the next permanent DOD chief, Breaking Defense reported.
Acting Deputy Defense Secretary David Norquist, who also serves as DOD’s comptroller, would remain in his official capacity as the agency’s second-in-charge, and acting Chief of Staff Eric Chewning would not return to his prior role managing the Pentagon’s industrial policy office, according to the report.
Norquist, a finance and budget expert, was formally nominated in March by President Donald Trump to become the permanent Deputy Defense Secretary.
