House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) unveiled two bills Thursday that would require DOD to execute congressionally mandated acquisition reforms and create a new program to help small firms bring innovation to the Pentagon, Defense News reported.
Thornberry, who the last few years has steered more than 60 DOD reforms into law, shared the new bills with Chairman Adam Smith (D-Wash.) with the goal of including them in the fiscal 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, which the committee will begin to mark up in June.
DOD hasn’t progressed to Thornberry’s satisfaction in a number of areas to revitalize Pentagon operations, performance and innovation.
“None of this is revolutionary. I don’t want to be revolutionary right now,” Thornberry told reporters Thursday. “We’ve made some substantial progress. We need to build and implement what we have done.”
