The Democrat-led House Homeland Security appropriations subcommittee advanced its fiscal 2020 defense appropriations bill Wednesday that would total $63.8 billion in discretionary DHS spending, CQ reported.
“With this bill, House Democrats continue fighting to strengthen our national security while reflecting our American values,” Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) said in a statement.
The panel’s draft includes $12 billion in funding for the Coast Guard, $162 million more than in fiscal 2019, and $894 million more than the administration’s fiscal 2020 budget request. A bill summary detailed that the Coast Guard would get $2 billion for procurement, construction and other service improvement.
