The Pentagon has provided updated information to the Senate Armed Services Committee on which military installations it has determined are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, Inside Defense reported.
The information, including lists by service of installations most at risk to climate change disasters, had been mandated by Congress in December after DOD released an initial report identifying 79 installations vulnerable to climate change effects.
The updated information is more specific and identifies states with the most installations at risk, according to the report.
California and Florida lead in vulnerable installations with eight each, followed by Hawaii, South Carolina and Virginia with three; Arizona, the District of Columbia and North Carolina with two; and Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Washington with one at-risk installation each.
The Pentagon’s information provides specific lists of vulnerable installations from the Army, Air Force, and Navy and Marine Corps.
