San Antonio Community Unveils New Signage as "Military City, USA"

August 19, 2019

The City of San Antonio, Texas, unveiled new community signage last week that welcomes visitors and proclaims the city as Military City, USA,  the San Antonio Business Journal reported.
In September 2018 the city adopted a request by Councilman Clayton Perry to place signs welcoming people to Military City, USA at major entrance points on roadways and at San Antonio’s municipal airports, according to the report.
“There are lots of reasons why people stay in San Antonio, but a big part is the military. It brings the community together,” Perry said during a press conference. “This is our city, and the military should see it as their city as well.”
San Antonio was trademarked Military City, USA in March 2017 after the city’s Office of Military and Veterans Affairs applied to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to obtain the stamp.
Perry is San Antonio’s representative on the Military Transformation Task Force, a joint-initiative between the city, Bexar county and the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce to share information and work with the military to enhance mission readiness through a Community-Military Partnership. It also advocates for the military at the local, state and national level and addresses impacts the military may have on the community.
San Antonio’s military contributes $30 billion to the Texas economy, including $13 billion to the local economy, and supports more than 500,000 people, according to the report.
