Inhofe Releases ‘Skinny’ NDAA

October 29, 2019

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-Okla.) released legislative text of his “skinny” version of the National Defense Authorization Act Tuesday.
“A skinny bill is simple,” Inhofe said on the Senate floor. “It extends necessary authorities for military operations, takes care of the service members and their families, and authorizes essential military construction and acquisition programs.”
Inhofe plans to bypass his own committee to bring the bill to the Senate floor this week.
The committee’s top Democrat, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), said he is still focused on the more comprehensive bill being negotiated with the House.
“We have made so much progress,” Reed told reporters, according to CQ. “It would be a shame to lose that progress.”
