DOD to Review Base Security After Three Incidents

December 8, 2019

The Navy will look for ways to upgrade security at installations following recent shootings at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, and a fatal gate-running incident at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., Military.com reported.
“These acts are crimes against all of us,” Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly said Friday after the Florida attack, adding it is the service’s “solemn duty” to look into its security policies.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper said he is also “considering several steps to ensure the security of our military installations and the safety of our service members and their families” but did not immediately elaborate.
