Esper: Pentagon May Shift MILCON Funding for Border Wall

Defense Secretary Mark Esper told lawmakers recently the Trump Administration is considering reallocating military construction (MILCON) funding to pay for the border wall, reported CQ. This funding shift would be in addition to the Pentagon’s plan to reprogram $3.8 billion in DOD budget, primarily from weapons procurement.

“Our preference would be that this be funded though DHS,” said Esper. “But that said, we are where we are, and DOD will support DHS in this regard.”

In fiscal 2019 the Pentagon used $3.6 billion of military construction funds to pay for the border wall.
