Senators Pass Immigration Policy for Children of Military and Civil Service Members

March 11, 2020

The U.S. Senate recently passed the bipartisan “Citizenship for Children of Military Members and Civil Servants Act” which ensures children (including stepchildren and adopted children) of military and civil servants born while stationed abroad will have a path to automatically acquire U.S. citizenship.

“Children of U.S. citizens serving their country overseas should be U.S. citizens, period,” said Senator Cory Gardner in a press release. “This is a commonsense solution that supports military families, and I’ll continue to work with my colleagues across the aisle to find a comprehensive fix for our country’s broken immigration system.”

The bill will head to President Trump to be signed into law.
