Missouri National Guard Partners with Local Schools to Deliver Food to Students

While education has become virtual for K-12 students in the U.S., access to reliable and healthy nutrition remains a pressing issue for many rural communities. Missouri National Guard is aiding the state’s vulnerable communities that are at risk to food disruptions during the pandemic.

Nearly 200 guardsmen are working closely with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to deliver and distribute food over the next few weeks.

“Feeding students is one of the many essential supports that our local schools and their staff members are continuing to provide during this period of distance learning,” said Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven in a press release. “We cannot thank our partners with the National Guard enough for coming alongside our local leaders to support our schools and Missouri families.”

Approximately 10 districts are being aided by the National Guard’s 70th Troop Command.
