Military Child Education Coalition Launches Purple Star School Designation Program

September 1, 2020

A new program by the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) will provide advice and counsel to states or school districts supporting military-connected children. The effort will help states create programs to designate so-called Purple Star Schools.

According to MCEC’s website, a “Purple Star School is a public or charter school that has committed to supporting the unique educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children.”

The Purple Star designation lets service members know that a school is dedicated to helping their child gain the educational skills necessary to be life-, workforce- and college-ready. The designation signals that a school supports the social and emotional well-being of military kids adjusting to new schools and the absence of a parent during deployment.

Those interested in starting a Purple Star School program can read about the effort here or contact MCEC’s Jack Ballantyne, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, at COO@MilitaryChild.org or (254) 953-1923 ext. 1124.
