Biden Budget Will Include Slight Increase in Pentagon Spending

April 8, 2021

President Joe Biden’s budget outline expected to be released Friday will call for $715 billion for the Pentagon in fiscal year 2022, Politico reported late Thursday, citing “three people familiar with the proposal.”

That would be about a 1.5% increase over the $704 billion lawmakers allocated for the current fiscal year. Many Republican lawmakers have asked for an increase of 3% to 5%, while progressive Democrats have pushed for defense spending cuts to boost funding in other parts of the discretionary budget.

The full, agency-by-agency, budget-line spending plan will not be released until later this spring.
