August 18, 2021

Leaders from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia and the city of Virginia Beach have signed a memorandum of agreement to jointly explore development opportunities for underutilized federal land around the installation.

The partnership is part of NAS Oceana’s “Future Base Design” concept, which aims to add to traditional base supports while modernizing installation capabilities and resilience. It will also reduce Oceana’s footprint.

“Future Base Design shows the Navy is committed to finding innovative solutions to save taxpayer dollars, providing world-class services to our sailors and ensuring Naval Air Station Oceana will be here for generations to come,” Rear Adm. Charles Rock, commander of Navy Region Mid-Atlantic. “This partnership is a great example of why the Navy is proud to call Virginia Beach and all of Hampton Roads home.”

The recently signed contract will mature over the next five to seven years.
