President Biden said last week he has almost “exhausted” the $3.5 billion Congress had authorized for the administration to use to support Ukraine.
Congress is discussing a supplemental spending bill, which Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wants to combine with a COVID-19 relief package that Republicans have been delaying, as Defense News reported.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said his party wants the COVID package to include an immigration provision.
Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Jon Tester (D-Mont.) predicted the Ukraine spending would ultimately pass on its own.
“I think we just need to get it done,” he said.
