House Appropriations Committee Advances MILCON/VA Bill

June 24, 2022

House appropriators approved a military construction/VA spending bill Thursday that would provide $15 billion for military construction, which is higher than the current spending year and President Biden’s budget request for next year.

Here’s how the military construction money would be spent if the House bill becomes law:

  • $2.1 billion for family housing projects
  • $510 million for housing for single service members
  • $274 million for child development centers
  • $1 billion for construction or renovation of Guard and Reserve facilities
  • $1.3 billion for Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Plan projects
  • $653 million for energy resilience programs
  • $575 million for ongoing BRAC activities, including PFAS contamination cleanup

The bill contains about two dozen earmarked projects requested by House members.

The Veterans Affairs funding includes allocations for mental health care, suicide prevention, assistance for veterans experiencing homelessness, women’s health care and construction projects.
