SASC Lineup Remains Almost the Same, with a Few GOP Changes

February 7, 2023

The Republican side of the Senate Armed Services Committee will look different this Congress. Former Sen. James Inhofe, the committee’s top Republican for years, has retired. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) is now the ranking member, serving alongside Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.)

Also gone from the committee are Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.). Taking their places are freshmen Sens. Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.).

In the previous Congress, the committee was split 13-13, but Democrats now have a 13-12 advantage.

The full committee roster is available on the SASC website, but subcommittee listings have yet to be officially posted.
