News Reports: Redstone Outscored Peterson for Space Command HQ

March 3, 2023

Two news outlets in Alabama published portions of what they say is a May 2022 report from the Government Accountability Office that has not previously been made public, showing the rankings of multiple sites considered for Space Command headquarters.

Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, ranked first in the Air Force’s evaluation and selection phases, according to the news reports from 256 Today and Yellowhammer. Citing GAO, they reported that Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado ranked fourth in the evaluation phase and fifth in the selection phase.

Space Command is currently headquartered at Peterson, but the Air Force announced in 2021 it would move the headquarters to Redstone. The final decision has been delayed, as On Base has reported.
