The former Fort Hood is now Fort Cavazos, Texas, following a ceremony Tuesday, as Army Times reported. Gen. Richard Edward Cavazos, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, was born in Texas to Mexican American parents. He became the Army’s first Hispanic soldier to wear four stars.…

Fort Benning became Fort Moore, Georgia Thursday, recognizing Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and his wife, Julia Moore, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. It will be the first installation named for a couple, WRBL reported. The Moores “were courageous leaders and visionaries whose lives exemplified duty, honor and country, and each time we pass through the gates [of Fort Moore] their legacy will inspire us,” said Maj. Gen. Curtis Buzzard, the top commander of Fort Moore and its Maneuver Center of Excellence, according to Stars and Stripes….

The defense industry supports more than 264,000 jobs in Alabama, according to a new report from University of Alabama in Huntsville College of Business, AL.com reported. The report, funded by the Alabama Military Stability Commission, says defense contracts generate $50.3 billion in economic impact across the state.
