NYT: Potential Debt Deal Protects Spending for Defense, Veterans

May 26, 2023

There is no final deal yet to raise the debt limit by June 1, but the New York Times reported late Thursday that one was starting to take shape.

According to the article, negotiators are considering raising the debt ceiling for two years and agreeing to some spending caps. Under those, military spending and veterans’ funding would go up for the next fiscal year, while all other nondefense discretionary spending would be at or below the current year’s levels.
