Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl plans to leave the Pentagon this summer, NBC News reported, citing three unnamed officials. Kahl is expected to go back to his job as a Stanford University professor, NBC and Defense News reported.

He has been in his job two years, following a heated confirmation process.

Sasha Baker, the deputy undersecretary of defense for policy, could move into Kahl’s job, at least in an acting capacity, officials told NBC News.
