House Debates NDAA This Week with Potential Nailbiter

July 10, 2023

The House will consider the National Defense Authorization Act on the House floor this week, with days of debate expected over cultural and political issues that might make it tough to pass.

The Armed Services Committee cleared the bill 58-1.

“Democrats overwhelmingly supported it, in part because the committee was able to beat back some, but not all, amendments aimed at undercutting diversity promotion at the Pentagon,” as CQ noted.

Tomorrow the House Rules Committee will meet to determine which of the more than 1,400 amendments that have been filed on the bill should get floor votes. Many of those focus on potentially divisive issues such as abortion and the promotion of diversity in the military.
