The Senate Armed Services Committee released its version of the National Defense Authorization Act Tuesday. The committee had approved the bill in a closed-door session June 22 by a vote of 24-1.
“As the nation faces a range of evolving threats, this NDAA would provide a historic level of support for our troops and their families,” Armed Services Chair Jack Reed (D-R.I.) said in a press release. “It authorizes record-level investments in the people, platforms, and programs needed to deter adversaries and safeguard the nation.”
Like the House bill, the Senate NDAA would authorize around $886 billion for defense.
“I am hopeful that the Senate will consider other improvements, including a topline increase for the Department of Defense,” Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), the committee’s top Republican, said in the same press release. “Adequate funding of our security needs would be a powerful show of resolve to our adversaries.”

It is unclear when the full Senate will consider the NDAA.
