Senate Delays Break in Hopes of Deal on Supplemental

December 15, 2023

Senators will return to the Capitol next week to see if they can reach a deal on border security language to attach to a supplemental spending bill with aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

“We have to get this done,” Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said. “We hope to come to an agreement. But no matter what, members should be aware that we will vote on a supplemental proposal next week.”

The extra time in D.C. means the Senate could also consider the promotions of 11 four-star officers who are still stalled under Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade protesting DOD’s abortion access policy.

The House is expected to return in January.
