Senate Committee Considering Bill to Move to 2-Year Budget

November 4, 2019

The Senate Budget Committee this week will consider legislation to reform the federal budget process.
The bill, introduced last week by the committee’s chair, Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), would require two-year budget resolutions. The current process is based on an annual budget resolution.
Under the legislation, the House and Senate would still approve individual spending bills on an annual basis, as On Base reported last week.
Enzi, who is retiring next year, has pushed for similar reforms in the past but hasn’t been able to get them passed.
The committee’s hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
